It's all about trust.

Good lord when did our generation get so damned cynical? And people wonder why everyone gets divorced.....

The internet is a poisonous arrow in the heart of true love. Specifically, I mean blogs and the dreaded IM. We all love to pontificate from our little outposts in cyberspace (myself included) about love, life, and everything in between. We love to post cryptic quotations from song lyrics in order to advertise our inner strife (I am particularly guilty of that one). And we also love to abuse the anonymity of the medium to push the boandaries of our relationships with no sense of what consequences might lie behind those clever flirtatious passages.

Worst of all, we love to air the dirty laundry of our relationships to a faceless audience, allowing us to indulge our worst suspicions as they slowly poison our attitudes in the "real" (i.e. offline) world.

And then we bitch to our friends about how we can never make our relationships work.

Enough already. Say what you've got to say, whatever, but please don't expect me to sympathize with you when you compulsively assume the worst of your mate and then wonder why your relationships feel empty.

Guess what? As I'm sure you've heard, relationships are a two-way street. Grow a pair, take the leap, love fearlessly. Quit assuming she/he is going to leave you.
Why? Because if you don't chill out and trust that person, THEY WILL. AND THEY SHOULD.

As I've said in previous posts (see "Nice Guys"), lay off the expectations. Your preconceptions are the quickest way to poison something that could be beautiful. If your parents had a shitty marriage, so the fuck what? Are you your Dad/Mom? No, and you don't have to be. The divorce rate in this country blows for a lot of reasons, but I believe the main one is our collective fear to be our own people, to step out of the shadows of others, reach out, and grab the hand of that fellow voyager, close our eyes, and leap into the unknown.

I'm ready for that leap, baby. It's time to fly.
